So I think there’s still a false perception of what people perceive Tenerife “is”… this is a hangover from the 80’s, 90’s and early 00’s package holidays to Playa De Las Americas, with people not venturing away from the resort (also it is what some people still do, insert rolling eyes emoji).
What Tenerife is to me, or at least the main plus points that don’t usually get mentioned:
- Some of the best surf in “the EU”
- Natural sea swimming pools
- 15th Century Architecture: La Laguna is an UNESCO world heritage site
- Stargazing: Mount Teide is described by NASA as the 3rd best place in the world to view the universe
- Anaga park: UNESCO world heritage biosphere reserve
Hence why I’m going to cover the cost of some “Art temps” from UAL’s film school travelling to Tenerife to get some content produced that helps to change the perception of what people in the UK think when they think Tenerife …instead of the usual “Brits abroad” image of Playa de las Americas.
I’m hoping the team at the University in La Laguna in Tenerife will also be interested in participating. If we can make it a collaboration, and about how great Tenerife is for the “work from home” and entrepreneurial community in general, then I think there is potentially a role / of interest for the tourism board and inward investment team of the Canary Islands.
What I’m aiming to achieve is a cross between… a lifestyle video, I really like the style of the first video below, and maybe a wider content range, a bit like the tourism video by the canary island tourist board website https://www.hellocanaryislands.com/tenerife/ (but definitely more lifestyle like the video below).
Tenerife according to wiki:
“Tenerife (formerly spelled Teneriffe) is the largest and most populous island of the Canary Islands. It is home to 43% of the total population of the archipelago. With a land area of 2,034 square kilometres (785 sq mi) and a population of 978,100 inhabitants as of January 2022, it is also the most populous island of Spain and of Macaronesia.
Approximately five million tourists visit Tenerife each year; it is the most visited island in the archipelago. It is one of the most important tourist destinations in Spain and the world, hosting one of the world’s largest carnivals, the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.”
